Conservatory Painting in Cheshire

Cheshire Painters paint and respray conservatory frameworks across Cheshire.
What we cover:
- UPVC conservatory frameworks — colour change or refresh
- Aluminium conservatory frames — specialist preparation and topcoat
- Timber conservatory frames — period and lean-to structures
- Dwarf walls and surrounding brickwork
- Colour coordination with existing windows, fascias, and front door
Conservatories are extremely common across Cheshire’s commuter belt. Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, and Knutsford have some of the highest concentrations of conservatories in the North West — large UPVC structures added to substantial detached homes throughout the 1990s and 2000s. Many are now ageing.

Conservatory Painting Services
UPVC, aluminium, and timber conservatories each require different preparation and products.
UPVC Conservatory Frameworks
White UPVC conservatories installed in the 1990s and 2000s are now a common sight across Cheshire’s suburban villages. The plastic profiles yellow with UV exposure and age, and the standard white finish dates quickly alongside updated window colours and exterior paint choices.
Repainting or respraying the framework transforms the conservatory without replacement. Cheshire Painters handle the full process — cleaning, priming, and spraying — to a factory-quality finish. Dark conservatory frames on a large detached Wilmslow or Knutsford property look considered and current.
Aluminium Conservatory Frames
Older conservatories — particularly on larger period properties in Nantwich, Knutsford, and Alderley Edge — often have aluminium frameworks. Aluminium requires a different primer system from UPVC but takes paint well once correctly prepared.
We clean and abrade aluminium profiles, apply an etch primer, and finish with two coats. Aluminium conservatories often suit darker, more architectural colours — they tend to be more slender in profile and the finish complements that.
Timber Conservatory Frames
Victorian and Edwardian lean-to conservatories on Cheshire’s older period properties use timber frameworks. Timber needs more preparation than UPVC or aluminium. Bare or weathered timber must be sanded back and primed with a flexible exterior primer, then finished with two coats of exterior paint or oil-based finish.
On listed properties or those in conservation areas, we advise on finishes and colours appropriate to the character of the building. Significant conservation areas exist throughout Nantwich, Knutsford, and Chester.

Dwarf Walls and Colour Options

Dwarf Walls and Surrounding Brickwork
Many Cheshire conservatories sit on a low brick dwarf wall that forms the base of the structure. Painting the dwarf wall to complement the new frame colour completes the refresh.
On Cheshire’s larger detached properties — particularly in Wilmslow and Knutsford where conservatories often extend to 20–30m² of floor area — the dwarf wall forms a significant visual element. We can also paint any rendered panels within the conservatory surround as part of the same visit.
Colour Options: Transforming an Old Conservatory
The most common conservatory project is a colour change. White to grey, white to black, or white to a specific tone matched to new window frames or front door colours. A large detached property in Wilmslow or Alderley Edge with a freshly resprayed grey conservatory looks entirely different.
Cheshire Painters advise on colours at the quotation stage and carry RAL and BS colour references. Where clients are updating windows and fascias at the same time, we coordinate colours across all elements for a consistent result. See our window frame painting service.
Here’s How It Works
1. Assessment
We inspect the conservatory structure, frame material, and glazing layout before quoting. Masking requirements vary significantly with conservatory size.
2. Cleaning and Degreasing
All UPVC or aluminium profiles are cleaned and degreased thoroughly.
3. Surface Preparation
Profiles are lightly abraded for adhesion. Timber frames are sanded as required.
4. Masking
All glazing panels, door furniture, and surrounding surfaces are fully masked.
5. Primer
UPVC adhesion primer, etch primer for aluminium, or exterior primer for timber — applied and left to dry.
6. Topcoat
Two coats applied by spray for a factory-quality finish.
7. Inspection
Coverage, edges, and all glazing seals checked before we leave.

Conservatory Painting Costs in Cheshire
Prices below are estimates only. Every property is different. Call 01244 727511 for a precise quote.
Typical Price Ranges
Small lean-to (UPVC frame, Crewe or Macclesfield): £350–£550. Standard 3m × 4m UPVC conservatory (Wilmslow or Alderley Edge): £450–£750. Large Victorian-style orangery (Knutsford or Chester): £700–£1,100. Aluminium conservatory (additional masking and prep): add £100–£200.
What Affects the Cost
Frame material — aluminium requires additional masking and etch primer, adding £100–£200 to the base cost. Conservatory size — a large Victorian-style orangery has considerably more profile area than a standard lean-to. Combined scope — combining with window frame or fascia painting reduces the overall per-item cost.
Combining Services
For a full exterior repaint including walls and woodwork, see our exterior painting page. For window and door frames painted at the same time, see our window frame painting service.

Combining conservatory work with window frame or fascia painting reduces the combined cost per item. The masking setup and equipment are already on site.
